Future Learning Goals

With graduation quickly approaching, the question is:  What do I want to do with my life? A few goals I have in mind include, expanding my knowledge in life coaching, increasing my public speaking skills, and taking deeper steps into learning the nuances of being an on-air personality. Before meeting these future-learning goals, I had my eyes set on professional basketball, but suddenly I reconsidered. Although these things are not necessarily connected with education, these are the most recent mountains that I aim to climb and conquer within the next few years of post-graduation.

Expanding my knowledge in the field of life coaching was birthed through a conversation with one of my friends who is also my mentor. As we were having a conversation about life coaching, I grew a burning desire to want to take this journey. Before our conversation, I had never heard of life coaches- only motivational speakers. As we began to dive into this uncharted territory, it began to pique my interest. Coaching in this context is not the typical style of coaching that we see as on a basketball court or a baseball field. This is more about being an encouraging force to people to discover what is already in them versus being the expert and telling them what to do. One day as my mentor and I were talking, an inward nudge inside of me was telling me this is a way I can serve the world. In seeking to expand my knowledge in this field, I am currently enrolled in a coaching program that teaches me the basics of what it means to be a great coach and leader. Eventually, I would love for this style of coaching to lead me into teaching life principles to kids. The end goal is to be able to use this as an avenue to serve the community of Huntsville, Alabama with a K-12 private school.

My public speaking aspirations peaked around the same time as when I decided that I wanted to go into Life Coaching. Being a communicator is a gift I have always possessed. Due to fear, I never wanted to embrace it because it made me uncomfortable but I have decided to embrace and nurture the ability of speaking publicly. Within the past few months, I have opened up my hands, my heart, and my mind to an opportunity of speaking to others on a larger scale. I am currently taking online courses to sharpen this skill, and I look forward to growing in my understanding of how to use it professionally. There is a concept called hard and soft skills training. The hard skills are the practice that you get through repetition with a coach, while the soft skills are the practice you get in real live action. I look forward to continuing to take both of these approaches.

Taking steps in learning the essential skills to be an on-air personality has become a priority as well. In high school, I used to say that I wanted to be a sports analyst once I completed my stint as basketball player. As I grew older, I forgot all about becoming pursuing that avenue of work. Eventually when the time came for me to decide not to further my basketball career after college, the dream came back to me again more strongly than I expected. My goal is to prepare myself through continued learning, studying current analysts, and practicing with a few mentors who work in this field of expertise. This is not a dainty task because the level of preparation that is involved is intense and significant.

All in all, my main mission is to serve the world with the gifts I have been graced with. There is a statement that talks about how the graveyard is the richest place in the world because of the number of people who died before realizing and releasing their potential. My heart desires to walk in the purposes that I was created to walk in and that can’t be done without me expanding myself through learning. A continuous flow of learning leads to an increase in value. The more valuable we make ourselves, the more we can become healthy assets in the society we live in.
